I'm finally back to continue this giveaway!
Based on a number of books I've read lately and a bunch of books I'm planning to read soon, as well as our church's sermon series and my own personal convictions, I am doing a giveaway of a series of books that all speak to the theme of "Being the change you want to see in the world." In other words, about how one person to make a difference for Christ and be Jesus to someone. These are books (fiction and non-fiction) about stepping outside of our comfort zone (in some cases way outside the comfort zone!) and challenging ourselves in both big and small ways to reach out to those in need.
Here are the giveaway rules:
1. Answer the day's random question. Today's question is: The main character in this story purchases a Harley. Have you ever ridden on or owned a motorcycle? I have not ever ridden on one or owned one, but it sure looks like fun!
2. Enter for this book by November 22. Winner will be announced the following day.
3. Respond within 10 days should you receive an email indicating you have won a particular book.
4. Come back soon for the next giveaway in this series!
Today's giveaway is The Reluctant Prophet by Nancy Rue.
Publisher's Description
At age forty-two, Allison Chamberlain is still making a half-hearted attempt to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up. Although she has been a pew-sitting member of a church for seven years, "prophet" has never been on the short list of possible careers.
Then one Sunday Allison senses a divine nudge to buy a Harley motorcycle and go wherever it takes her. Soon she is wondering if she is called to present the reality of Christ to one of society’s darkest corners—and challenge her own church to look beyond their fears.
The first in a brave trilogy from seasoned writer Nancy Rue, The Reluctant Prophet shows how one person’s response to God’s call can change a community forever.
My Thoughts:
I really loved this book! I love the way Rue writes about her characters. Allison's character is well-developed and interesting. She's funny but real. She's crazy-determined to do what she feels led to do. Boy does that take guts to do things that others mock us for, even when we feel totally called by God to do them. I wanted to know the characters in the book. I want to meet people like that who love God without pretense and who accept human frailty and love all God's children even when they are at their lowest.
I can't wait to read more in this series! What an adventure!
