2. apples
5. thanksgiving
6. harvest
7. books with the word "fall" in them
8. books with the word "autumn" in them
I had other words, but couldn't think of books to use to relate to them! :)
RULES FOR ENTERING will be:
a. Post a comment to the blog entries of the books you would like to win AND answer the question that goes with it.
Today's question: Today's fall word is: apples, there are lots of ways to enjoy apples...pies, tarts, muffins, or just plain and crisp on their own. What is your favorite kind of apple and what is your favorite way to eat them? I really like Golden Delicious when they are at the right stage of ripe and not soft and mushy. I love a good warm apple crisp with vanilla ice cream or cut up apples with peanut butter.
b. Enter on or before the date specified. Claim your prize, if you win, within 10 days of being notified or I will redraw. (In other words, let me know you want the book and where it should be sent, should you find out your name was drawn.)
Today's book winner will be drawn on Nov. 14.
c. Check back for the next fall theme word giveaway!
Books with the word "apples" in them is today's fall word. Today's book is: Hidden Places by Lynn Austin.
A Captivating Tale of Lives Intertwined By Need and Circumstance, Family and Love
A deep yearning for home had led Eliza to Wyatt Orchards ten years ago. Now widowed with three young children, she faces mounting debts and the realization it is all up to her. But she has no idea how to run an orchard alone.
When a stranger appears at her doorstep, Eliza guesses he is no different than the other out-of-luck characters searching for work during the Depression. But the familiarity with which Gabe tends to the farm raises unanswered questions. With a vulnerable heart, she is unwittingly drawn to his gentle ways. But Eliza also fears that Gabe hides a past and motives that could jeopardize all she has fought to attain for herself and her children....
Winner of the Christy Award, presented by the Christian Bookseller Association to honor the best in Christian fiction.
Review from Lynn Austin's website:
"...combines a strong spiritual story line with endearing, believable characters during the Great Depression. 'How's a scrawny young thing like you, with three little kids to raise, ever going to run a big outfit like Wyatt Orchards?' the widowed Eliza Rose Wyatt is asked. She's desperate to hold on to the only real home she has ever known, but Eliza believes it will take a guardian angel to help her succeed. When the handsome hobo, Gabriel Harper, comes into her life, Eliza at first holds him at arm's length, wondering whether the aptly named mysterious stranger could be the guardian angel she's been waiting for. The strength of this beautifully descriptive book is its characters, from the whimsical, eccentric 'Aunt Batty' to the one-eyed dog, 'Winky.' Austin incorporates subtle allusions to the angel theme throughout the text in everything from a Christmas tree ornament to the birth of a calf. Underlying layers of the story deal with the impact a father has on future generations and the importance of following one's dreams in spite of opposition. Throughout, readers are teased with misconceptions about Gabriel that are resolved in an unexpected manner. The flashbacks to the past can feel somewhat jarring, but Austin's writing is strong enough to take the reader through them with only a few difficulties. If Christian fiction fans haven't discovered Austin before, this appealing book will send them to her backlist, wanting more." --Publishers Weekly
