As promised, I would like to say a bit more about this book. I think Melanie Wells is a wonderful writer and hope to see more books from her soon!
Dr. Dylan Foster is a professor and psychologist who has been "picked out" by a demon who calls himself Peter Terry and he has made it his goal to torment her. (Dylan is a woman.) She's not sure why he picks on her and he rarely shows himself, but when creepy and unexplainable things happen in her life, she knows to attribute them to Peter Terry. He doesn't always perform the dirty work himself. Sometimes he warps the minds of others and gets them to do evil things. No wonder Dylan need to arm herself for the battle with God's armor. No wonder she's having a hard time hanging on to any semblence of a normal personal life. When she does make friends, they seem to get harrassed by Peter Terry too. When she date, one crisis after another and her own obsessed search for answers makes her boyfriend feel neglected. Good thing she knows that the battle belongs to the Lord. But that doesn't help her explain why these things are happening to her.
In this third book, her friend's son is kidnapped and Dylan knows that Peter Terry somehow has something to do with it. A special little girl she got to know in the first book, who shares her ability to see spiritual things and feel things that others don't feel, is feeling what the missing boy is feeling. As Dylan does battle with those who are responsible, she has to take on both spiritual and human foes to get to the truth.
Another new favorite author for me, Melanie Wells' writing communicates the gammit of emotions. One minute I totally spooked by the unexplainable activities in Dylan's life and the next minute I'm laughing at a coversation between Dylan and her boyfriend. I also was entertained by Dylan's obsessive-compulsive cleaning and organizing binges. Understandble though, that she would feel a need to find something she could control when her life was spinning out of control. I was fascinated by all three books. Suspenseful and imaginative, well-written and lyrical.
