As a violent hurricane approaches the Florida coast, three women are trapped in the elevator of a high-rise office building---unaware that the secrets they hide center on the same man. Can the betrayed wife, the determined mistress, and the fugitive cleaning woman find the courage and faith to unite and fight for their lives?
My Review:
Hunt takes us on an hour by hour accounting of these three women from the morning of the hurricane, to getting trapped in the elevator, to the long hours they spend together trying to figure out how to get out of the elevator. Hunt also uses flashbacks to help lay the background that makes up each of these women. There's Michelle, the woman struggling to obliterate her "hick town" past by being successful even if she has to stretch the truth. She's on her way up to see the man she's dating to convince him to marry her. There's Gina, the lonely and desperate wife who just discovered her husband's having an affair. She up to confront her husband once and for all. And there's Isabel, a young frightened office cleaner who is hiding from a dangerous drug dealer that she escaped when she came to America. She is trying to cover up a mistake and keep her secrets safe. They are strangers to each other but little do they know how connected their lives really are.
This was a fascinating look at what desperation can lead people to do. These women are all desperate for different reasons. It reminds me of what my brother always says, "It's how you look at the events of life, not the events of life themselves." That's what makes this book interesting: watching the progression of how these women cope with their despearation while trapped in an elevator and unable to do anything about it. Kind of like a pyschology study in a way. While some look for hope and find it, others remain trapped. You'll have to read it to find out which ones!
I give this book a sunny day rating!
