My 14-year-old niece, Abby reviewed these books for me and gave me her perspective on the books. These reviews are written by her.
I loved all but a few of these books. Melody Carlson is a fabulous author! I love how in these books she wrote in first person. I would recommend the True Colors series to anyone older than seventh grade.
Dark Blue--This book was somewhat depressing, but it did end off with a happy ending. It did a good job of introducing the characters in the second book, Deep Green.
Deep Green--I really liked this book, it describes a twisted love triangle, leading one girl to have an STD transferred to her, while the other girl commits her life to Christ.
Torch Red--I really liked this book. It proves that purity is perfectly fine, and also an extremely God-pleasing idea.
Pitch Black--I disliked this book. It was sad and depressing. It is all about a girl whose extremely close friend commits suicide, which leads many of his peers to consider doing the same thing. Three of them get very serious about it. I would not recommend reading it if you do not like sad stories.
Burnt Orange--I really liked this book. It is all about a nice Christian girl who becomes a high school alcoholic. This book has a very tragic ending, but ishows a powerful message about how terrible underage drinking is.
Fool's Gold--I really liked this book. It was all about how it's very easy to get sucked into the whole spending more than you have type of thing. It also includes a lot about fashion and how friends can turn on you, or lie to you.
Crushed Rose--I really like this book, even though it had a sad ending, and a sudden and surprising death. This book is about a girl whose dad has an affair leading to several months later, the girl's mom moving in with a strange new boyfriend.
Faded Denim--I really like this book. It dealt with the issue of the main character's best friend trying to become a model, leading to anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder.
Bright Purple--I really like this book. It proclaims that you need to love everyone, even when they make a life-changing sinful choice.
Harsh Pink--I really like this book. It described how being friends with the popular kids is not always as fun as it may seem, especially when drinking and mean pranks are included.
My niece chose not to read Moon White or Blade Silver because of their heavy content.
Thanks Abby for reading this books and letting us know a teenage girl's perspecitve on them!
