Description:
Annie Justice sees things differently. Her unconventional condition, synesthesia, helped make her one of the most sought-after stained-glass artists in the country. And teamed with her German shepherd, she's just as successful in her work with the K-9 Search and Rescue Team, finding people seemingly hidden from others eyes. But no one knows her expertise for hiding the childhood insecurities that plague her, until Jed Curry comes along. Then the search for a missing child goes awry, and Jed must reveal his true identity. He is prepared for Annie's anger, but not the hurt. And neither of them is prepared for the real trial ahead; something far more sinister and dangerous than their search. Can Jed and Annie overcome their unknown enemy, and the insecurities and secrets keeping them apart, before it is too late?
My Review:
Another wonderful book in this series! I found myself fascinated with the concept of synesthesia, the condition Annie has where she sees colors in numbers and letters and surrounding people. I wonder what my color would be?
(Side note, see comment from Karen Ball below--she gave me my color as cerulean blue and so I'm putting a swatch of it here! Thanks Karen! I love this color!)
The book starts with Annie discussing her "romantic" life with her sister and struggling with a sense that she will never find someone special for her. Annie feels different and is afraid that no one will be able to appreciate the differences. Annie has a wonderful dog, Kodi, who is a search and rescue dog. Annie also is a very talented artist and designs beautiful stained glass windows. These two areas of Annie's life compete for her time and energy. When a TV show takes an interest in her, Annie doesn't want the attention or complications, but little does she know that Jed doesn't take "no" for an answers. So Jed tries to gain her consent to do the show by getting to know her without revealling who he is. Doesn't sound like to great of a plan if you ask me! :) Of course who knew he would end up falling in love with her.
When Annie starts getting strange and threatening notes, her brother (deputy Dan from book 1 of the series) is determined to keep her safe. And the cuprit is trying set her search and rescue attempts up for failure when she and Kodi are searching for a lost little girl. And while dealing with the sense of failure for the search efforts, Jed decides to come clean to Annie and she has to face her feelings of betrayal as well.
Read the book to find out if she and Kodi find the missing girl and to see if Annie can forgive Jed.
