Decription:
The demon of note in this "stunning" debut novel is Lucian, a former seraph whose one worshipful glance at Lucifer proved unforgiveable by Elohim--the God of the universe, the God before the universe. But Lucian isn't taking his dammed state lying down. No, he's found Clay, an editor whose burning desire to author a best-seller supercedes the voice of common sense. It's that voice that would tell Clay to avoid communing with a demon if only it could be heard above the din of Clay's own self-doubt and curiosity.
Read the first chapter and note the amazing grasp of language, of writing style, Tosca Lee employs. And when you turn the last page, your view of good and evil, angel and demon altered forever, ask yourself the same thing early readers of the manuscript did--how did a debut novelist write this?
Review:
Wow. This book is powerful. I loved it and yet it scared me because it reminded me of how easy it is to get complacent and to turn to "idols" for satisfaction in this life when there is Someone of greater value just waiting for me to love Him. To have a demon describe his amazement at why God would bestoy so many blessings upon the human race was startling and powerful.
The book begins with Clay, an editor and want-to-be author, going out to eat and meeting up with Lucien who reveals himself to be a demon. A demon who tells Clay that he will record his story and publish it. Clay is drawn in...he cannot seem to help himself. Clay and Lucien begin to meet and Lucien retraces the history of Lucifer's fall, the creation of the world and time, the creation of Adam and Eve, the fall of mankind, the birth of Jesus, his death and resurrection and Lucifer's constant determination to thwart God's plans. Seeing these familiar stories through the eyes of the demon is unbelievably poignant. I am blown away.
This book has impacted my heart.
Here's what other reviewers are saying:
"Wise, imaginative, funny, and poetic, this is a book that lingers in memory after you've read the last page. Beautiful and brilliant, it's bound to be a bestseller." Sophy Burnham, New York Ties best-selling author
"Tosca Lee shines in this debut novel that is unlike anything I have ever read. This is a modern-day parable that effectively re-tells the story of God's love for man that is woven throughout the Bible. Not only is this a highly entertaining read, but it is also extremely challenging and thought provoking. Lee pulls back the veil and reveals the spiritual struggle that all humans face. Clay is a remarkable character because his story is our story and his stuggles are our struggles...An excellent novel that will hold your attention and stretch your perspective on life."
